Clark Gable: The King Of Hollywood
Gable is the famous actor who epitomized the American ideal of masculinity and virility for nearly 3 decades. An enormously popular star during his lifetime, Gable was dubbed the “King of Hollywood.” He gained fame and became a leading actor in Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s. He is best known for his role as Rhett Butler in the epic film “Gone with the Wind” (1939), which remains one of the most enduring films in cinema history.
Gable’s career spanned several decades, and he left an indelible mark on the film industry. He left the world in November 1960, but his legacy continues through his contributions to the world of cinema.
Some of his notable films include – “It Happened One Night” (1934), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, “Mutiny on the Bounty”, and “The Misfits”. Gable’s charismatic screen presence and rugged charm made him a beloved figure in classic Hollywood cinema. His most successful films for MGM included Red Dust, Strange Interlude, Dancing Lady, Hold Your Man, Manhattan Melodrama, and Men in White. The Misfits was his best in many years and features one of Gable’s finest performances of Gable and Marilyn Monroe – the two of Hollywood’s most enduring icons.
Despite his macho persona, his magnetic smile and playful winks rendered him a charming rogue, but he didn’t take himself too seriously. During the filming of the movie ‘Gone with the Wind’, he got married to actress Carole Lombard. The couple had met on the set of No Man of Her Own and later started dating each other. The business of making movies suddenly seemed frivolous to the devastated Gable, who walked away from his Hollywood to join the Army Air Corps. He served as a tail gunner during the war, making him a greater hero than ever in the eyes of his fans, and attained the rank of major.
